Politics is verily, a game of power show everywhere, but the gamut of this illusive game of power hunting becomes a web of deceit courtesy of two grounds, “morality and legality”, abating its dire repercussions everywhere. Politics in Pakistan though, has always been an anomaly contrary to others and has never been an idyllic sculpture of morality throughout its history, still the stature of morality and legality in Pakistan’s politics has never plumbed to depths this far.
“A country already facing an exacerbating crisis in every potential ambit of its survival, could expect the least of having these morally stooped politicians, who have made even politics, a wargame of “no hold barred contest” to bifurcate the already polarized country.”
Low moral standards, inflammatory discourse, political victimization in Pakistan’s political course hasn’t been a new addition of a chapter to this country’s accumulated black deeds, which already witnessed four martial laws. Yet, the only ominous impression that holds its place is, this being a hallmark of a democratic government, hanging its opponents to dry out without any remorse. This despicable attitude which should be condemned in all manners, unfortunately has been the parties’ agendas in nowadays’ political discourses. The Interior Minister of this country, Rana Sanaullah Khan has innumerably stated this notion, either in his press conferences or talk shows, as now, it doesn’t matter whether it’s legal or beyond that, we’ll go hard on PTI as hard as we can, now one of them will survive, either us, or them, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. This attitude portrays the moral values of this country’s bigwigs are at its nadir. A country already facing an exacerbating crisis in every potential ambit of its survival, could expect the least of having these morally stooped politicians, who have made even politics, a wargame of “no hold barred contest” to bifurcate the already polarized country.
The politics which by all means indicates a war in this country, is filliped by political victimization, which is at its zenith and what’s even menacing is the sheltering took under law and order, just to torch it legal. The law and order, which shouldn’t have been a matter of privilege, has become this country’s unwanted hindrance to transparency. As former president of Peru, Oscar R. Benavides narrates,
“For my friends, everything. For my enemies, the law.”
The extortionate use of law, just to make your opponent lose face and crush him down, isn’t the emblem of democracy. Imran Khan, who has been a prey of this political victimization has paved this way in his tenure, acquiring the help of the institutions. Nothing has changed now; even the present government isn’t willing to put their weapons down to stop browbeating his opponents.
The recent political happenings of Imran Khan being arrested in a deplorable manner, has manifested the government’s intentions and has inculcated even more rancor and malice between the government and the opposition, thus making the political temperature, even frigid, and indicating that the gloves are getting off from both sides. This would continue to be the bottom line of this country’s black history, until someone avert these atrocities, but till then, this country’s catastrophic damage would congest its immunity to survive.
Politics must be a different power game from war, and it could only be possible, when you have moral values and legal grounds to show you the mirror. What’s happening now in Pakistan, is not politics by any means, but a warfare, and even if the winner takes all, the loser will be this country’s people, the grave ramifications of which would burden the people of this country to bow down. There’s always and must be a way back in politics, a room for dialogues and negotiations, to thaw the relation between the government and the opposition. The country is even already facing a plethora of maladies. To both, parliament is indeed a better ground where polemics should be replaced with ideologies, for breaking the hiatus in relations and addressing the solutions, to this country’s existential threats.
